Unicut secures subcontract business at MACH

  • Unicut secures subcontract business at MACH
As a result of Unicut Precision's presence in the BTMA Village at MACH 2010, it secured an export order, with further contracts under negotiation, for producing high tolerance hydraulic components for an Indian company.

Unicut was at MACH promoting its single cycle machining, inspection and measurement, and subassembly capability at its Welwyn Garden City facility. The factory is equipped with 21 Citizen CNC sliding head turn-mill centres with capacity up to 32 mm diameter and three Miyano multi-axis fixed head turning centres with capacity up to 64 mm diameter."

Managing director Jason Nicholson said: "We were approached during the show with drawings by the customer's senior engineer who had previously noted our sample components on show. These had been produced using 'one-hit' cycles and the fact we had a Citizen CNC sliding head lathe and OGP non-contact measurement system on display also helped as they reflected our production capability."

Following the show, an initial order was placed and Unicut are now quoting for further components that could bring significant orders to the UK. Unicut already exports 40 per cent of its production but as Mr Nicholson said: "This is the first time to India – everyone expects them to be selling to us."

Commenting on MACH he maintains: "It will take three to six months to really make a judgment. However, we took 34 really positive leads from the show and since have had further direct enquiries to follow up."
