Trumpf UK outperforms market

  • Trumpf UK outperforms market
By adding almost £4 million to its turnover this year, Trumpf UK has beaten the forecast growth for the UK market by a large margin.

In May this year, the Manufacturing Technologies Association forecast growth in UK machine tool sales of 5.9 per cent in 2008; Trumpf’s achievement was almost double that.

During the last financial year, Trumpf UK has also significantly added to its headcount. In 2006/7 it had a staff of 73; today it is 83. And most importantly, three of these new additions are engineering apprentices.

Overall the Trumpf Group closed the 2007/2008 fiscal year (July – June) with record numbers. It recorded an 11 per cent rise in sales to €2.14 billion. At the same time, income before taxes increased to €301 million. The net operating margin reached 14.1 per cent.

As part of the overall growth, Trumpf created 697 new jobs of which 291 are in Germany. On 30 June 2008, the company employed about 8,000 people worldwide.

* Trumpf won the German Government’s Award for Innovation with its original design of its slat cleaner. This special tool allows operators of flatbed lasers to remove slag quickly and easily from the machine’s support slats. Previously this was accomplished by chipping the slag off with a hammer, an unpleasant task that took hours. Often the build up was so great that slats had to be frequently replaced adding to process costs.
