Successful Fastems organises for further UK and US success

Fastems, the Finnish manufacturer of multi-level, automated storage and retrieval systems for machining centre pallets, has announced new initiatives in 2006 to expand its operations in the UK and the USA.

Changes in the UK have been that since 1 January 2006 the business has been incorporated in the UK and traded as Fastems Ltd, based at the same location in Dartford. Previously the firm operated as a division within the Helvar-Merca Group. In March, Steve Malone (picture, right) was appointed UK sales manager, reporting to the main board of directors in Finland. He was until recently in a sales role within a multinational manufacturer of prismatic machining equipment and transfer lines. Mr Malone takes over from Robert Humphreys (picture, left) who, along with three engineers from Finland, is moving to support the new Fastems subsidiary in the USA, which was also set up on 1st January. There are now over 30 Fastems flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) in the UK based on pallet storage systems. Turnover in 2005 was more than 50 per cent up on the previous year and one third ahead of target, helped by two large orders from the aerospace sector.
