Sliding-head CNC lathe maker Star Micronics Company Ltd of Japan is to construct a new factory building at its machine tool manufacturing subsidiary, Star Micronics Manufacturing Dalian Co. Ltd, in China.

Established as an overseas manufacturing base in 1989, the existing site manufactures products for sale in East Asia (mainly China), Europe and the United States. This latest move, originally announced in November last year, is due to the company experiencing a period of continuous strong growth in its machine tools segment operations both in Japan and overseas, with China in particular cited. But overall, Star Micronics’ machine tools segment sales are projected to hit a record high for the fiscal year ending February 28, 2018, the company reports.

The new three-story building in Dalian will be used as a machine tool option installation and testing area for products mainly for the China market. The second and third floors will house a storage area for components, as well as an area for the assembly of NC operation panels.

In expanding existing facilities with the construction of a new factory building, steps will be taken to consolidate plant operations that to date have been spread over two locations. In addition to improving productivity, this initiative will help bolster the group’s product shipment capabilities and further increase sales in China, which are expected to expand in the future.

Star Micronics is represented in the UK by Star Micronics GB.
