Shearline Precision Engineering, Eley, Cambs has bought Hybrid Laser Tech, Cambridge to increase its manufacturing and engineering capabilities.

Shearline Precision Engineering has been in operation for over 30 years and currently employs more than 120 skilled staff. It offers a seamless manufacturing solution from design for manufacture through prototyping to full production and international outsourcing and delivery to world-class clients in markets as diverse as scientific and medical instrumentation, information and communications technology, security, automotive and commercial inkjet printing. Hybrid Laser Tech was established in 1988 and uses Coherent Everlase CO2 laser systems to provide precision cutting and scribing of ceramic substrates and precision cutting of thin metals, wood, paper, plastics, acrylics, PCB and PZT. Originally set up to provide a laser cutting service to the Hybrid Micro-Electronics industry, the company has successfully expanded to service major clients in the aerospace, education, medical and telecommunications industries. Long-term plans are currently being proposed for a further extension to Shearline’s 57,000 sq ft facility in Ely. Once complete, the equipment and staff at the Hybrid Laser Tech operation will take up residence with Shearline in a custom-built production facility.
