Schunk is preparing for the next step of its global growth by investing around €85 million in its production facilities at Brackenheim-Hausen, Mengen and St Georgen in Germany, as well as Morrisville in the US. The expansion, which is expected to be complete by mid-2020, will create around 42,000 sq m of additional production and administration space.

Morrisville, in North Carolina, has already seen new building come on stream. As well as expanding the production area, Schunk Intec USA has created a generous administrative building that, through its open architecture, encourages and inspires creativity and lateral thinking.

In the newly-created Customer Centre, users can experience Schunk’s solutions and receive additional know-how in technology forums and workshops. Under the motto "One Team - One Family - One Future", the approximately 4,000 m2 building expansion was inaugurated in early May with an official ceremony, followed by a family day. Schunk has invested a total of almost €10 million in the upgrade.

In addition, €40 million is being put into the Competence Centre for Gripping Systems in Brackenheim-Hausen, just 5 km from Schunk’s headquarters in Lauffen. The expansion covers an area of 22,000 m2 and represents a doubling of the existing production area.

Schunk is investing a further €30 million in the Competence Centre for Lathe Chuck Technology and Stationary Workholding in Mengen, in the district of Sigmaringen. Here, 12,000 m2 are to be added for production and R&D. Lastly, €5 million has been invested at the St Georgen site in the Black Forest, where the production area was doubled with an increase of 4,200 m2.

"In the coming years, we will experience a boom in automation and digitisation worldwide, and we'll only be able to handle this by having the right capacities in place", says CEO Henrik Schunk.
