Planit a top-five CAM vendor, says CIMdata

Rapidly growing sales across all areas of its metal and woodworking software business, combined with the acquisition of the EdgeCAM brand, catapulted Planit Holdings into the top five vendors of CAM software in 2006, according to the NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment Report, by US consulting and market research firm CIMdata.

The group’s combined software revenues of $55 million represent an increase in group sales of more than 46 per cent during the past 12 months, making Planit the fastest-growing vendor of CAM software worldwide.

The report also confirms Planit as the number one CAM vendor on the basis of industrial seats both shipped and installed in the manufacturing sector. This brings the organisation’s total number of installed industrial seats to more than 84,000 – at least 24,000 more than its closest competitor, and up almost 30,000 since 2005.

The combination of EdgeCAM, AlphaCAM, Radan, Cabinet Vision and Cabnetware have broadened and strengthened the group’s portfolio, making Planit “a force to be reckoned within CAM,” according to Alan Christman, chairman and member of the CIMdata board of directors. With a total of 436 employees devoted to its CAM business units, the group is also rated by CIMdata as the world’s largest by headcount.

Commenting on the results, Planit’s chief operating officer, Bryan Pryce said: “The Planit focus is broader than that of most CAM vendors, offering a product range encompassing everything from point-of-sale design software for specialist and major home improvement retailers, through design-to-manufacture software for the specialised cabinet industry, to CADCAM applications for the mechanical, woodworking and engineering industries. We currently enjoy market leadership in wood, stone, and sheet metal, and are achieving rapid growth to support multi-axis and one-hit machining on latest generation mill-turn machines. Our recent move from public to private ownership gives us greater ability to invest for the future.”
