Oxfordshire Advanced Skills seeks 100 apprentices

The Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) training centre is on the hunt for more than 100 engineers of the future to fill apprenticeship places. Located at Culham Science Centre near Abingdon, OAS is a partnership between the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The OAS centre, which opened in September 2019, is managed by training partner MTC Apprenticeships.

September 2020's intake of apprentices will start their training at the newly opened 3,800 m2 training academy. An event to showcase the training facilities will be held at the facility on 28 November (17:00-19:00). The open evening will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the apprenticeships and understand the needs of some of the employers with whom the centre is currently working. Anyone interested should register here.

UKAEA partnered with STFC to form OAS, mainly to increase the amount of trained technicians available to local employers. More than 100 apprentices will begin next September, with a further 100 being recruited at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) in Coventry.

Paul Rowlett, managing director of the AMTC, says: “Having an insight into tomorrow’s technology gives us the ability to create training programmes and apprenticeships to equip industry with a capable workforce. We’re delighted to be working with UKAEA and STFC to deliver the OAS training programme. There is a clear synergy and shared vision across our organisations.”
