New Okuma machines from NCMT at MACH 2010

  • New Okuma machines from NCMT at MACH 2010
NCMT, sole agent for Okuma in the UK since 1976, will demonstrate, on stand 5228, the Japanese manufacturer's two approaches to high end, multi-functional machining.

The Okuma Multus B200-W multi-function machine for turning components performs 5-axis machining operations using a milling spindle rated at up to 16 kW mounted on a swivelling 225° B-axis. On show for the first time in the UK, the machine has a capacity of 200 to 1,000 mm diameter, with up to 6 m between centres.

The Okuma Multus MU-500VA-L mill-turn centre on show is a 5-axis vertical machining centre, to which has been added turning capability. The design is based on a fully integrated trunnion swivelling horizontally from +20° to -110° and carrying a 360° rotary table; trunnion rotation is up to 50 rpm, with repeatability of 0.001°. This design adds an A and C-axis to the X, Y and Z envelope of 1,250 by 660 by 540 mm, with 40 m/min rapid traverse in the X and Y axes, and 32 m/min in the Z-axis.

The third Okuma machine on the stand will be the Okuma LB3000EX C M 500 mill-turn centre. This is a 2-axis lathe with optional C-axis and driven tooling, as well as having X and Z-axis rapid traverse rates of 25 and 30 m/min respectively. It is available in two bed lengths with distances between centres of 500 or 1,000 mm and a maximum turning diameter of 580 mm.
