With the completion of its Chiba No.2 Plant in Japan, Mori Seiki is set to boost production of its NT mill-turn lathes.

The Chiba Campus, Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, is where NT production is focused and current levels of 50 machines/month will rise to 100 units by the end of March 2008 following this plant expansion. The No.2 Plant will start full-scale operation around the end of April or May. Assembly will take place in the existing Chiba No.1 Plant while machining is undertaken in the new Chiba No.2 Plant. Together, the two Chiba plants are the same size as the company’s the Nara Campus. The new factory has a total land area of about 17,000 sq m with about 7,000 sq m of floor space and represents an investment of some ¥4 billion yen for the land, construction, machines and equipment. The NT Series is a strategic machine in the company’s Mori-568PLAN (Medium-term Management Plan – see Machinery, August 2005, page 12) in which the company is aiming for a 5 per cent of the world market for the machines it manufactures. * As part of achieving its Mori-568 Plan, through high-quality production, the company has made its Iga Campus in Mie Prefecture (Iga No. 1 Plant, No. 2 Plant, and the High-Precision Facility) constant-temperature environments. Nara and Chiba Campuses will follow. Across the three Iga Campus plants there are 102 measurement points which detect variations of 0.1 °C.
