Mitsui Seiki machine boasts 120 bar through-spindle coolant and more

  • Mitsui Seiki 2D CNC Machinery high pressure coolant
As part of a multi-million single 5-axis machine installation for a UK aerospace company, turnkey supplier 2D CNC Machinery (Mitsui Seiki), the customer, FSE and machine builder Mitsui Seiki developed a fully programmable, totally media-free high pressure coolant system capable of providing up to 200 bar pressure around the spindle and 120 bar through the spindle.

The machine, Mitsui Seiki HU 100A-5XLL horizontal machining centre, is cutting high value Ti6Al-4Vi beta annealed titanium which is some 20 per cent harder than standard titanium.

The Ultrajet soluble oil based system has media-free 15 micron filtration with a working volume of over 100 m³/min supplied from a 4,500 litre tank. The pump volume capacity is 325 litres/min with a low pressure flood to remove swarf from within the guarding zone.

The 120 bar figure for through-spindle pressure is almost double the normal industry standard for high pressure coolant of 70 bar.
