The Mikron Group, Agno, Ticino, Switzerland, a specialist in the production of machining and assembly systems, has acquired Namco SA, a company based in Caslano, Ticino*.

Namco SA manufactures customer-specific transfer machines and posted sales of around CHF 2.5 million (£1 million) in the 2006 financial year. Its workforce of 13 will be retained.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. In terms of the 2007 business year, the acquisition will, for the time being, have no significant impact. The acquisition is part of a succession arrangement.

Namco SA will continue to produce at its current site with no change in the existing scale of its operations. Mikron SA Agno will be responsible for managing the company. Through this acquisition, Mikron's Machining Technology division adds complementary products to its flexible, high-precision machining systems.

Mikron will benefit from better access to companies active in the lock-making, eyewear or watch-making industry. Namco SA also enjoys a reputation for its cost-effective machining solutions. Mikron's international distribution network will in future help further exploit the new potential.

* Ticino is the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland.
