Maxcor machine tool empire continues to grow

Maxcor's MAG Industrial Automation Systems (MAG-IAS) group has snapped up another machine tool company - Germany-based IWKA's Boehringer operations.
Maxcor is an acquisitions and operations management organisation with emphasis on operational improvement and growth strategies, it is headquartered in New York, USA.
The Boehringer Group includes Boehringer Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH, Boehringer Werkzeugmaschinen Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, both of Germany; FMS Drehtechnik Schaffhausen AG, Switzerland, UBJ-Boehringer Inc, Canada, and George Fischer-Boehringer Corporation, USA.
Boehringer is a manufacturer of turning, turning/turn broaching, turn broaching, internal milling and high speed external milling machines. In 2005, Boehringer generated sales of approximately €140 million.
In fact, MAG-IAS took on board IWKA's Ex-Cell-O machine tool operation in late 2005; this latest move represents a further restructuring of IWKA's business and marks a final exit from metalcutting machine tool manufacture. IWKA now focuses robot-based production systems in the automotive and packaging arena, it also makes packaging machinery.
This is MAG-IAS' fourth machine tool purchase and will expand its portfolio of manufacturing solutions companies to 16. Boehringer now joins Cincinnati Lamb, ThyssenKruppMetalcutting and Ex-Cell-O within MAG-IAS.
MAG-IAS businesses include Cincinnati Automation & Test, Cincinnati Machine US, Cincinnati Machine UK, Fadal machining centres, Giddings & Lewis, Hessapp, Hüller Hille, Witzig & Frank, Maintenance Technologies, and MAG Powertrain (Cross Hüller, Ex-Cell-O and Lamb).
MAG-IAS is a provider of manufacturing solutions to the automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace and general machining
industries. While its automotive support is focused on powertrain providers (primarily OEMs such as Ford, DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Volvo and Hyundai), its business also includes several Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers in both powertrain and non-powertrain businesses.
In heavy equipment, MAG-IAS works with customers such as Caterpillar, Cummins, and International on machining of diesel engine components and other machining needs in their product offerings.
