Inca Geometric works at the double to meet auto maker's deadline

Inca Geometric has just 48 hours over a weekend to strip out 12 m of mechanical handling conveyors, two 5 m lift towers with elevators and adjacent interconnecting overhead walkways to enable a new production flow line to be installed at an automotive company during its three-week summer shutdown.

Once removed and shipped back to Inca Geomtric's factory, in Chartham, near Canterbury, new conveyor systems will be configured within a two-week window, shipped back to the customer and installed with the new production line. The complete system then has to commissioned, passed-off and be ready for production to commence after the summer break.

"This is a very tight project, so we have committed a team of 15 engineers comprising fitters, riggers, electricians and a software specialist who will be assigned as needed to different stages of the programme. We have already prepared key parts for the re-build and produced two special bogies to support and help transport the various sections within the production area."

A major factor in Inca winning this project was the successful completion of a complete rebuild and commissioning of four complex special purpose machine tool fixtures for producing V8 engine crankshafts during a previous two-week factory shutdown.
