High-speed milestone
High-speed and 5-axis milling machine tool specialist Mikron, part of Agie Charmilles, has recently celebrated the 1000th sale of its high-performance and high-speed (42,000 rpm spindle) milling machines.
The machine, a HSM 400U, was sold to Belgium-based ESTooling, a precision engineering company that makes both high-precision moulds and tools for the automotive sector, and complex parts for the medical and optical industries.
Incidentally, the 999th and 1001st such machines were sold to UK companies. “We have certainly seen a dramatic upturn in sales here in the UK for our high-speed (HSM)/5-axis milling machines over the last couple of years,” said Tony Steels, managing director of Agie Charmilles UK.
