First-in-UK Promac Sharav machine goes to composite parts maker

  • First-in-UK Promac Sharav machine goes to composite parts maker
The first Promac Sharav machine to be sold in the UK has gone to Melton Mowbray-based KS Composites.

KS Composites is a global player in the design and manufacture of composite and GRP components, along with the mould tools required in their manufacture. As part of an ongoing investment programme, it installed the Promac Sharav GVT 3.5, a large capacity, high performance, high accuracy, 5-axis moving bridge milling centre.

Work undertaken by KS Composites includes a Le Mans car chassis, the skin of a train, ski bindings, and historic sports car restoration.

Promac Sharav machines are sold in the UK by Lemoine (UK) and are designed and manufactured in Italy by Promac S.A.S.

Chris Mayne, managing director, Lemoine (UK), said. "This new machine will provide KS Composites with high performance 3- and 5-axis contouring capability, coupled with high accuracy, for all machining applications in steel, aluminium, composites and resin model board. While providing such high performance and accuracy, Promac has also created an exceptional machine with a competitive price."

The installed machine has X, Y and Z-axis travels of 3,500, 4,000 and 1,500 mm, respectively, a 32-position tool changer, and is fitted with Heidenhain iTNC 530 CNC control, laser tool probing, optical linear coded scales and a continuous automatic 2-axis milling head incorporating a patented high torque drive system (2,000 Nm torque per axis).
