FC Laser has installed a 10 kW Bystronic fibre optic laser centre that is capable of cutting materials as thick as 30 mm; two more identical machines are to be ordered over the coming months.

And to make sure that the company gets the best out of the machines, undergraduate Swarrendeep Samra has been taken on for a 12-month internship. He will also look at overall process improvements across the company and at problem solving more generally. With an in-house specialist capable of maximising the capabilities of the fibre lasers, FC Laser believes it can move “even further ahead of its nearest competitor”.

Features of the new 10 kW laser include the fact that it is 40% more energy efficient than the company's previous equipment, while the machine is as easy to operate as mobile phone. With just a few swipes across a touch-screen, operators can sort job lists, assign cutting parameters, define the automation mode and start the cutting process.

Says FC Laser's general manager, Steve Connolly: “Speed, accuracy, quality and maximum uptime - the new Bystronic machine is literally at the cutting edge of laser technology and it is so easy to use.

“When the other two machines are installed, we will be in our best position yet to meet the requirements and demands of our expanding customer base.”
