Delivering high performance training in the East of England

The Hethel Engineering Centre, Norwich, a training and education facility set up to address post-apprenticeship training needs and more was officially opened this month.

The Centre is a development driven by Norfolk County Council in partnership with East of England Regional Development Agency (EEDA), the Learning and Skills Council and Business Link, and Group Lotus. It has taken four years and £4.4 million to make it reality and has been trading since February.

Hethel Engineering Centre is described as “a business dedicated to supporting the growth and success of high-performance engineering and manufacturing companies and individuals throughout the East of England.”

In addition to a variety of training courses such as business planning and policy deployment, process/product improvement and control, and leadership and personal development, the Centre also has a machine shop where it runs a number of open courses aimed principally at upskilling the engineers, technicians and programmers/setters to achieve excellence and learn new skills using CNC and 5-axis machining technologies.

The machine shop is populated with Haas metalcutting and Mitsubishi wire-cut machine tools and interest from other manufacturing technology suppliers is reportedly growing.

Hethel Engineering Centre also provides business incubation facilities.
