CAM companies cosy up to machine tool makers

Gibbs and Associates and Mori Seiki are to collaborate in the development of GibbsCAM to suit Mori Seiki’s mill/turn machines.

It will include GibbsCAM configurations, post processors and machine simulation models mutually developed by Gibbs and by Mori Seiki. These will be checked for functionality in various scenarios to verify that the post processors and simulation models generate proper output in which customers can have confidence. The collaboration follows on from a similar one announced last year with Pathtrace for its EdgeCAM software. And in a similar move, Pathtrace signed another such agreement with Korea’s Daewoo Heavy Industry. The complexity of mill/turn machine tools represents also makes programming them efficiently challenging and making sure its customers can effectively use its technology is clearly important to Mori Seiki. “By working with leading CAM software vendors such as Gibbs and Associates,” says Mori Seiki development director Dr Fujishima, “we are able to give our customers the assurance that there is a programming solution available to meet their needs when investing in our latest generation NT range of our multi-tasking machine tools.” As part of the Gibbs/Mori Seiki agreement, GibbsCAM software will be made available to Mori Seiki technical centres around the world.
