Balzers to adopt Oerlikon brand
From 1 September 2006 PVD coatings specialist Balzers, Milton Keynes, will be branded as Oerlikon Balzers Coating, leveraging the strength of the Swiss Oerlikon name.
Brand awareness is more and more becoming a decisive factor, especially in the high-technology industry. Oerlikon says it recognises that brand image and development are key factors in the organic growth strategy of the corporation.
All business units of the previous Unaxis Group, of which Balzers was a part, will be combined under the single Oerlikon brand beginning 1 September 2006.
This move is a sign of Oerlikon’s commitment to its hundred years of industrial history and the traditional strengths of the corporation, it is said.
Key dates - Schweizerische Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Oerlikon (SWO) was founded in 1906 – the predecessor to Oerlikon-Bührle AG, which was created in 1973. Balzers became part of Oerlikon-Bührle in 1976. Oerlikon-Bührle became Unaxis in 2000.
