Aerospace machining event to be staged by Schunk and Walter

On 9 May 2019 Schunk will be hosting a customer innovation day in collaboration with cutting tool specialist Walter at the Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) in Sheffield. The event is an opportunity for manufacturers specialising in the aerospace sector to witness 5-axis work holding and machining via presentations and practical shop-floor demonstrations.

Forming part of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), the KTC is a prominent venue for high-value manufacturing events. With doors opening from 09:30, the aerospace machining event will witness presentations from both Schunk and Walter. The introductory address will be followed by a Schunk presentation on the latest Vero-S Aviation modular clamping system for aerospace structural components.

Schunk’s Vero-S Aviation has been developed so that users can benefit from reduced set-up costs when machining structural components. Rapid adjustment of the entire clamping set-up is achieved via a special bearing from the Schunk Vero-S quick-change pallet system. The clamping unit bearing is unclamped using spring force, while to relieve the component, the unit is released pneumatically.

Upon completion of the presentations and lunch, delegates will transfer to the ‘Factory of the Future’ where the Schunk Vero-S Aviation will be clamping aerospace components and demonstrating its potential in conjunction with the AMRC’s machine tools and Walter cutting tools.

Including demonstrations of HPC machining, process strategies and structural tooling programmes, the event is a must-attend for manufacturers working in the aerospace industry. Numbers are limited, so those wishing to attend are advised to contact Schunk without delay.
