1st MTA to launch automatic drill sharpening module at MACH 2010

  • 1st MTA to launch automatic drill sharpening module at MACH 2010
An attachment to automate drill refurbishment, the latest addition to the Darex XT3000 Xpandable Tool Sharpener system, will be launched, in the UK, by workholding and machining equipment specialist, 1st Machine Tool Accessories Ltd (1st MTA) on stand 5349, at MACH 2010.

Comprising an automated sharpening fixture, geared drill holder and control panel, the module delivers faster and more accurate regrinding of drills up to 21 mm diameter by ensuring precise control of drill set up, sharpening loads and cycle times.

"The new module represents an affordable method of bridging the gap between a manually operated machine and a fully automated CNC sharpening system. It provides fast payback and is easily integrated into machining cells. It also delivers consistent results regardless of operator skill levels, making the system ideal for multi shift manufacturing operations and extended production runs." says 1st MTA's general manager, Catherine Kelly.

Designed to grow with customers' individual requirements, the XT3000 meets or exceeds international aerospace standards for controlling key geometry variation, ensuring precise drill performance.

The auto sharpening attachment extends and complements the capabilities of other XT3000 optional modules, including units for Morse taper, common shank, sheet metal point (Brad Point) and 90 degree point drills. A dedicated step drill attachment is also available, along with a large capacity attachment for drills up to 30 mm diameter and a countersink module for regrinding Weldon type or single flute countersink tools.
