Much more than DNC

Networking machine tools to send, receive and analyse information, not just NC programs, is an international pursuit. Westland Transmissions’ IT operations manager, Martin Knowles, describes the company’s Seiki Systems Networked Manufacturing System (NMS) installation as a “delivery system” rather than a DNC system or a machine monitoring system – although it is both of these. It is seen as a means of delivering information to machines, but it is also becoming an information provider. Seiki Systems cites the Westland case as a good example
