Maxilock D turning tools overcome one of the age-old problems faced by machine operators around the world – namely locating spare parts.
Ceratizit has developed a range of turning and boring toolholders that contain a pocket into which is located a spare shim and TorxPlus screw. Additionally, the TorxPlus key is integrated into the shank to reduce packaging volume and storage and to ensure that these vital elements are available where they are needed, on the machine tool at no additional cost to the user.
In addition to the spare shim and screw, Ceratizit has also paid close attention to the insert clamping mechanism. Traditionally, the top clamp on a toolholder comprises the ‘claw’, spring and clamping screw.
With Maxilock D these have all been combined into a single unit making changeover a much-simplified operation, particularly in unfavourable conditions, where the tool may be inverted in the turret. Inventory is also reduced, as the whole clamping unit is now a single item.
Further development has been applied to the insert clamping and seat arrangement, with pressure being simultaneously applied to the contact face and location face providing precise and secure insert location, even when indexing inserts that are partly worn or are suffering from built up edges.
The use of TorxPlus screws provides added security, as the tightening torque moments are more easily transmitted than with a conventional Torx screw. Additionally the larger contact face that is provided will result in longer service life for both the tool and the screw.
