SmartPlug proves smart move and prompts investment 11/09/2006

quality measurement equipment, inspection equipment The success of Bowers Metrology's SmartPlug has prompted the installation of a Studer S33 cylindrical grinder.

“Following the successful launch of the Bowers SmartPlug range, high levels of customer demand for the popular new gauges began to create a production bottle-neck within our existing grinding cell," says Graham Keefe, managing director of Bowers’ Bradford manufacturing plant.

"Now operating on a two-shift pattern within our precision grinding room, the S33 is being used to produce many critical Group components such as SmartPlug bodies and the high precision Micrometer spindles used in both our three-point internal gauges and Moore and Wright external micrometers. Despite cycle times having been reduced by over half on many of these components, overall accuracy has been improved, further enhancing Bowers Group products.”
