Second generation high-pressure coolant system for Citizen sliding-head lathes August 2006

high-pressure coolant, Cool Blaster, Citizen sliding-head lathes The second generation Cool Blaster high-pressure coolant delivery system for Citizen sliding-head lathes is very compact, fitting under the bar feed units.

It is fully programmable with options of five or 10 independent line feeds able to deliver up to 24.5 litres of coolant per minute, an increase of 25 per cent generated from a new continuous running 7.5 kW pump. The new pump has a five micron filter to remove swarf particles and a heat exchanger to maintain a consistent coolant temperature for improved machining stability. In addition, a 114 litre/min booster pump with 25 micron filter is available to further improve machining efficiency. Also included in the specification is a clogged filter alarm.

According to Jim Cepican, general manager of Cool Blaster Systems: “So powerful is the new system that one customer in the US is even using a high-pressure jet to re-cock a mechanical diehead in-cycle.”

*Cool Blaster Inc is owned by Citizen Machinery, Japan.
