Saint Gobain Abrasives has launched a new generation of ceramic abrasive belts June 2006

The Norton R980 range designed to give up to a 200 per cent increase in performance versus existing ceramic designs.

The belts, which use a new generation of SG ceramic abrasive are suitable for roughing and semi-finishing applications and last up to twice as long as the best competitive ceramic belts currently on the market. They also have a faster cut, even at medium grinding pressures.

The Norton R980 range can be used to grind a variety of materials including high nickel alloys, super alloys, cobalt chrome, titanium and stainless steel and the new ‘supersize’ grinding aid’ enables a cooler cut when compared to existing ceramic belt designs. A new resin bond system also extends the life of the belt.
