Tyrolit revolutionises grinding wheel data management 08/05/2006

grinding wheels Tyrolit has revolutionised traditional tool identification and created a new method of ‘communication’ between grinding wheel and the machine.

From March this year, ceramic and electroplated CBN grinding wheels have been fitted with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology - Tyrolit's Wheel Memory.

Integrated into the main body of the grinding wheel, the microchip stores data such as setting dimensions, tool and machine numbers in line with the inspection records for the grinding wheel. It enables data to be exchanged with machine controllers via read-and-write technology.

For the first time actual tool life values can be documented in full and made available for each wheel reassignment. Above all, these precision tools can be used in series production in the automotive, transmission and turbine industries, says the company.
