Dragonskin PVD and CVD coated grades keep heat generation to a minimum November 2008

Mastertool Dragonskin the PVD and CVD coated grades provide the optimum machining solution, providing extended tool life and high productivity, while simplifying the selection process, says WNT.

With a combination of newly developed nano-structure PVD coating, new substrates and positive geometries, the PVD grade is said to deliver an unbeatable solution when machining steel, stainless steel or difficult-to-machine materials such as heat resistant super alloys.

When it comes to CVD coated inserts, Mastertool Dragonskin has integrated elements such as Boron to enhance the tribological effects of the coating. This, along with the ability to apply single and multi-layer coatings to extremely precise thicknesses, has led to significant improvements in cutting performance.

The surface of an insert coated using the Mastertool Dragonskin technique is multi-tasking, in that it reduces friction, therefore heat generation, to a minimum. Its inherent hardness qualities help to reduce tool wear and any wear that occurs is easily identifiable. As a result, insert changes are less frequent and are only carried out when absolutely necessary.
