GE Fanuc CNC linear motor demo machine built in UK 27/10/2008

Halifax Numerical Controls (HNC) has built a machine tool for use by Fanuc GE CNC at its Luxembourg headquarters for the demonstration of its linear motor technology.

The unit is a scaled down twin-column, travelling gantry machine with four independently programmed heads mounted on the crossrail.

Driven by a Fanuc GE 310i-A CNC unit, each linear-motor-driven axis is capable of traverse rates of 2,000 mm/second with acceleration of 2 G and nanometre resolution with absolute feedback provided linear scales. For machines with longer axes, speeds of up to 4,000 mm/second can be realised.
