Dormer to hold regular tooling surgery days 02/10/2008

Dormer Tools is opening a technical surgery to demonstrate how its products can give customers a competitive advantage.

The company unveiled a dozen new products in September and these tools will become the first to be exhibited at Dormer’s new site within the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), located between Rotherham and Sheffield. Special ‘surgery style’ days will be held once a month at its new research and development unit there.

The products include:

* A range of multi-application solid carbide flute cutters branded MC-X cutters. The new cutters are suitable for milling a wide range of engineering materials, such as steel, cast iron, titanium, nickel, copper, aluminium and synthetics.

* HydroGrip and SynchroFlex high performance toolholders suitable for all drilling and reaming operations, as well as the vast majority of milling operations.

* A range of high performance solid carbide drills specifically for machining composite materials.

“Machining of composite materials can cause problems such as delamination between layers, fraying, hole erosion and splintering. The new drill – developed in co-operation with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing - addresses these issues, providing the perfect solution for the market, said David Goulbourne, development manager for drills at Dormer.”

As part of its R&D facility, Dormer will be staging live demonstrations on cutting aluminium and steel with tools, using machines purchased from DMG.

John O’Donoghue, general manager at Dormer Tools, added: “The surgery days will enable customers to bring in their drawings and applications and speak with our sales engineers on site and gain first hand assistance, with the ultimate aim of significantly reducing manufacturing costs.”
