New man to head 600 Group lathe design team 18/07/2008

600 Group UK lathe manufacturing centre, 600 Lathes, has appointed Jonathan Wright (pictured) as the new head of its engineering design department.

600 Lathes’ managing director, Jonathan Shaw said: “Our future lies first and foremost with our design department: it is upon them that the responsibility rest for applying latest technology to the creation of innovative, practical, affordable lathes which meet the foreseeable requirements of our customers and which we can manufacture at a profit. The appointment of Jonathan is a very important one. He has been a leading force in the design and development of the new Tornado TT6 (introduced to the market at MACH) and will give us the competitive edge with the new machines he has on the drawing board”.

Mr Wright first joined 600 Lathes in the early 90s as one of its sponsored students. After completing his degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering, he worked for the company for several years before seeking broader experience in the machine tool industry. He rejoined the company in 2000 initially as electrical project engineer but quickly became electrical engineering manager. In 2005 600 Lathes recognised his skill and commitment with further promotion and responsibilities.

Mr Wright said: “I am, of course, pleased by my appointment. My tasks are interesting and exciting, and have clearly visible goals and achievements. Engineering design has a vital role in the future of 600 Lathes and the manufacturing plant here in Yorkshire. Design is key to our future. It is essential that to remain a leading manufacturer of lathes we remain on top of new technologies.”
