Turning insert enables triple federate with finer finish August 2008

Feedrate increases up to three times the turning capability of conventional carbide inserts with the added advantage of improved surface finish, lower cutting forces and improved heat dissipation when cutting dry, are major benefits of the latest HPT Wiper coated inserts from LMT Boehlerit.

The inserts are ideal for turning annealed, hardened and tempered and stainless steels with a BHN up to 355 HB at speeds up to 480 m/min and grey, nodular graphite and malleable cast irons up to 260 HB at speeds of 500 m/min.

The HPT Wiper insert fits a standard CNMG tool holder giving 0o cutting edge and requires a lower cutting force due to the exact alignment of the special combination of radii and straight cutting edge in the direction of feed along the axis of the workpiece. This also provides a distinct advantage of improved surface finishing when turning very small diameters and the arrangement of the insert geometry also ensures there is no preliminary or post-cutting at the edge of the insert.
