Multi-tasking 8-axis turn-mill boasts large stroke for Y-axis cross-feed May 2008

Single hit, turn-mill cycles from an 8 in chuck size carried on 25 kW, built-in main and opposed spindles, are featured on the latest 8-axis Hyundai-Kia SKT 200TTSY ‘multiple tasking’ centre. The machine which also has a 65 mm bar capacity, has the added flexibility of two 12-station driven tool turrets – the upper with an unusually large +60 mm stroke for its Y-axis cross feed.

The Fanuc 18i-T controlled Hyundai-Kia machine has a maximum swing of 780 mm diameter with a 390 mm turning diameter capability on the upper 12 station turret and 300 mm diameter on the lower turret. The maximum turning length is 900 mm and the machine specification also includes a 100 mm diameter quill-type tailstock.

Rapid traverse rates are 24 m/min on each of the five main axis strokes and 12 m/min on Y which, due to the design, requires only a single feed control setting to synchronise complex shape machining involving the actions of X, Z, C and Y-axes, and Y and X for circular interpolation.
