Heavy duty machining publication offers guidance 10/04/2008

A catalogue for heavy duty machining processes such as bar peeling and roll turning is now available from ATI Stellram.

The 56-page publication not only comprises an in-depth geometry user guide, but also contains grade classification and materials cross reference charts, problem-solving tips and ISO/ANSI insert designations.

The user-friendly catalogue features a colour-coded Star Guide, which is specially designed to help engineers match the recommended Stellram insert with the most suitable machining materials.

More than 75 heavy duty insert part numbers, available in carbide and ceramic grades, are listed in quick-reference tables, which also contain dimensions and usage guidelines. All technical information is provided in imperial and metric measurements.

Other useful sections include technical tips on how to tackle problems such as built-up edge, chipping, notching, thermal cracking, how to improve surface finish and assess different hardness scales.

The new catalogue is the result of close collaboration between ATI Stellram and its sister companies in the ATI Engineered Products group as well as years of experience of working with machine tool manufacturers.

“This guide represents an important resource for the engineering industry as, for the first time, it brings together a wide range of application information for non-standard cutting tool solutions for all of these heavy duty processes in a single source,” explained author Sydney Pierce, ATI Stellram’s heavy duty market segment manager.

Copies are available in print and PDF formats and can be obtained from Elena Gandiglio on 00 41 22 354 9711 or via email egandiglio@stellram.com.
