Trunnion mounted table offers positioning accuracy December 2007

A trunnion mounted swivelling and rotating table for 5-axis machining, now available on the Kern Pyramid Nano machining centre, can achieve workpiece positioning accuracy to within three seconds of arc. This level of precision is combined with the capability and accuracy of the Kern machines and allows considerable improvements to be made to milling and drilling quality and tolerances.

The table has a torque drive motor and is temperature regulated to ±0.25°. Described as robust and rigid, the table is capable of accepting component weights up to 250 kg.

The spindle of the table is available in a number of different designs with the most popular being the System 3R Macro Magnum chuck or the Erowa power chuck. These systems are able to change workpieces up to a maximum size of 150 x 150 x 100 mm automatically.
