Bott gets 'greener' with new paint plant 01/08/2007

Workplace and storage equipment manufacturer Bott has invested £175,000 in a more efficient and environmentally friendly finishing plant at its Bude, Cornwall factory.

The plant will further improve the paint finish on Bott’s range of cupboards, shelving, workstations and mobile units, cut the amount of raw material used, reduce electricity consumption and lead to faster changes between paint colours.

Changes between colours used to take between three and four hours; the new equipment cuts that to just 15 minutes, allowing Bott to respond more quickly to customer requirements without disrupting production lines.

“Bott endeavours to be an environmentally and socially responsible company," said Andrew Poole, engineering manager. "Investing in this new paint plant is a win-win solution for us. It has improved efficiency, will help us meet customer demand more effectively, improve the paint finish and at the same time, help to reduce our carbon footprint.”

A key environmental benefit is a reduction in the amount of epoxy powder used. Around 98 per cent of the powder is recovered through the plant’s extraction and recycling system.

Overall the plant also uses less compressed air and electricity; around 36 kW of electricity, 15 per cent less than its predecessor.
