Grand designs for the future 01/08/2007

Any visitor to Trumpf’s new technology centre at its Luton site might have thought that they were walking into a set for the TV series Grand Designs. Entering the Technology Centre at ground level, the glass-fronted, elevated visitor coffee bar and meeting room ‘pod’ is a stunning yet understated, minimalist design which whispers ‘future’, without being out of tune with the present, and ‘success’, but in hushed tones. It is certainly an unexpected contrast to the outside of the building; one of a number of standard structures close to Luton airport, and where the German sheetmetalworking machine and laser specialist has had its UK location for 17 years (it has been operational in the UK for 26 years).
