The renewable energy, power generation, oil and gas industries today offer considerable opportunity for UK manufacturers. The UK is blessed with an abundance of natural energy resources, including large, unexplored reserves of oil, gas and coal. Also, thanks to our long coastline and exposure to wind, wave and tidal power, the UK has Europe’s richest renewable energy resource. All of which makes oil and gas, power generation and renewable energy hugely important to the country’s economy – in 2002, it was estimated that 264,000 jobs (source DTI) in the UK depended directly or indirectly on the oil and gas industry alone.
